On May 20, 2008, Rob Jackson was named as the Founding Principal of High School "C," later named Cuthbertson High School. In 2009-2010, the school opened its doors to students for the very first time. The school became the first Union County High School to earn the state’s highest Academic Designation, NC Honor School of Excellence, after only a single year of operation. The school also earned the designation, UCPS International School. Student Athletes earned Conference, Regional, and State Championships. The Band and Chorus earned high marks in their competitions, while the Drama Department thrilled us with their plays and musical.

Mr. Jackson described CHS saying, “Cuthbertson High School is a vibrant, energetic place. It is a safe place where life is fully experienced as young people explore their own interests, abilities, and begin the process of setting their future course in life. Our teachers and faculty push and praise; cajole and challenge; demand and generously give. In this dynamic, ever-changing environment, I have been blessed to watch as students achieve things they did not believe possible. It is a place where we still believe in and promote the American dream that every child could be President one day if they work hard enough and try their very best.”

In 2010-2011, Mr. Jackson was honored to be selected by the other UCPS Principals to represent them as the 2010-2011 Union County Principal of the Year.

He has been honored during his career as the Outstanding Senior in the Elementary Education Department of Western Carolina University, the Sallie Mae First Year Teacher of the Year at Glen Arden Elementary School in Buncombe County, named a North Carolina Principal Fellow, and was awarded the Jack McCall Award through the Principals Executive Program.

Mr. Jackson has been blessed with amazing mentors during his career and has endeavored to mentor others. In his seven years as a Principal, Mr. Jackson has helped eight of his Assistant Principals be promoted to the principalship, three teachers promoted to the position of Assistant Principal, and two teachers promoted to positions as Curriculum Coordinators. He has also served as a mentor to two Union County Principals.

Prior to his assignment to Cuthbertson High School, Mr. Jackson served as the Principal of Parkwood High School in Southwestern Union County. He previously served as the Founding Principal of Marvin Elementary School. Marvin earned the designation of (Honor) School of Excellence at the completion of its initial year of operation and has maintained that designation each year since. It was also named a North Carolina Super Safe School for three consecutive years while Mr. Jackson was the Principal.

Mr. Jackson has served as a School Secretary, a Bus Driver, an AfterSchool Associate, a Teacher and an Assistant Principal. Mr. Jackson also served in the US Navy onboard the USS Iwo Jima. He brings a wealth of experience from a variety of perspectives to this opportunity for service to the students, parents and the community of Union County.

Mr. Jackson is married to his best friend, Rene. They have three sons; Dennis, Joshua and Elijah, and one daughter, Maddy.

He has enjoyed helping to bring together students and staff from three remarkable High Schools (Marvin Ridge, Parkwood, and Weddington) to create a true learning community that values education as a means to overcome ignorance and engagement as a means to overcome apathy.
