-In-State Angels help out of state college students earn in-state tuition at over 80 universities in the USA. Seniors who have been accepted to an out-of-state college should check out www.instateangels.com to see if their university is listed.
-Each year Kiwanis of Monroe gives out two scholarships ($2,000 each) to a Union County high school senior- one is an open scholarship, and one is reserved for an active member of a Key Club. Click here for the Key Club application and here for the open scholarship application. Application deadline is April 22, 2014.
-The Mary Blair Scholarship is given each year by the Woman’s Missionary Union of Union Baptist Association to two students attending Wingate University. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year. All applications must be submitted by May 1, 2014. Click here for the application.
-The CHS PTSO is proud to offer four $1000 scholarships to seniors pursuing fulltime high education after graduating from CHS. Applicant must be a CHS Senior graduating June 2014, have a minimum GPA if 3.0, and his/her parent must be a paid member of CHS PTSO as of April 1. -The Union County Antique Tractor and Power Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to a student entering the field of agriculture or an agriculture related field. Please submit applications no later than April 1st. For scholarship requirements and application, please click here.
-OMNOVA will be awarding two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each. OMNOVA is looking for students who have exemplary high school academics, financial need, and will be pursuing degrees in chemistry, industrial or printing engineering, or arts and design. To apply students must submit a resume and a one-two page essay that explains their financial need and future plans. Please submit this to Mrs. Devine by March 21st. Two students will be selected from Cuthbertson and sent to the district for consideration.
-The Waxhaw Woman’s Club announces the 2014 Waxhaw Woman’s Club Scholarship Awards Program. Under the Program, three (3) $500 scholarships will be awarded to female seniors attending Parkwood, Cuthbertson, and Marvin Ridge High Schools in Union County, NC. There will be one scholarship awarded per school. Seeking graduating female seniors with a record of volunteerism in the community in non-school sponsored activities and participation in extracurricular school activities. Applicants must plan to attend a two (2)-year community college or four (4)-year college or university. Applicants must have the endorsement of their Guidance Counselor on their application attesting they are qualified for this scholarship program. ·State Employees Credit Union have established the “People Helping People” four year scholarship program. Each North Carolina public high school will receive one scholarship valued at $10,000 for a senior to attend one of 16 constituent campuses on the University of North Carolina. (Yes! You read this correctly; this scholarship is for one CHS Senior and is valued at $10,000 over four years!!!) Applications are available here in Word and here as a pdf. ·The State Employees Association of North Carolina (SEANC) Scholarship Foundation, Inc. offers academic scholarships to dependents of SEACN members. Thirty awards are annual scholarships (15 merit-based and 15 need-based) for four-year college or university students. Eight awards are annual scholarships (4 merit-based and 4 need-based) for those students enrolled in a junior college, community college or technical school. ·Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, Inc. is a non-profit organization that is delighted to award two $500 scholarships to deserving high school seniors. Student must complete application, submit high school transcript, write a personal statement and have 3 letters of recommendation (1 from a community or church leader and 2 from school personnel.) Winner must e present at the high school awards ceremony, if not the scholarship will be forfeited. Click here for the application. ·A Few Good Men, Inc. is offering two scholarships of $500 each to Union County high school seniors that will be entering an accredited college or technical school this fall. The scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s academic achievements and the other criteria listed on the application. Please click here for the complete application. Applications are due April 28th, 2014 and must be mailed to address as stated on the application.
·The North Carolina Association of Educational Office Professionals, Inc. and the Union County Association of Educational Office Professionals invites graduating seniors to enter their scholarship competition. Three scholarships will be awarded in the amounts of $1000, $800 and $500. The $1000 scholarship is for a senior whose parent is member of NCAEOP. The $800 scholarship is for a senior who is a child of a UCPS employee and the $500 scholarship is for all UCPS seniors. Applications must be sent to UCPS Central Services no later than March 21st, 2014. Applications are available here.
·The Charlotte Knights and Carolinas Health Care System are dedicated to providing educational opportunities to the youth in our communities. Charlotte Knights will be offering three, $1000 scholarships to a college student pursuing a career in the health field. ·The North Carolina Society of Accountants Scholarship Foundation is offering $600 scholarships to students who indicate a desire to enter the profession of accounting. Applications are available here and are due April 15, 2014.
·The Alpha Zeta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma International Society for Key Women Educators gives a $1000 grant-in-aid award to a deserving student in Union County each year. The deserving student should have a sincere desire and commitment to enter the teaching profession. The application is due by Friday, April 18th. The application is available here.
·Union Power Cooperative will be awarding three, one time, $1000 college scholarships to outstanding graduating high school seniors who live within the cooperative five county service area. These scholarships are for high school seniors who plan to attend a North Carolina accredited college or university and must plan to complete a four-year, undergraduate course leading to a baccalaureate degree. ·Siler Presbyterian Men of the Church offers scholarships for young men and women that are interested in attending a technical school, community college or a two year college to receive an associate’s degree. Financial need as expressed by the candidates is a significant consideration in awarding these scholarships. The deadline for this scholarship is May 16th 2014. Applications are available here.
·The Union County Friends of the NRA are awarding $500 scholarships. Applications are available here. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements (see application) and must write an essay on the topic “The Second Amendment, The Right to Keep and Bear Arms and Its Relevance Today.” Essay must be in APA format. Applications and essays are due April 28th, 2014.
·Mesothelioma Memorial Scholarship—Established in 2003, this $500 scholarship is offered four times per year to honor the thousands of people who have died from mesothelioma, as well as the thousands of patients who are newly diagnosed with the disease every year.
