"Preparing All Students to Succeed"

-The Education Foundation in partnership with UCPS is pleased to have the honor of awarding six $5,000 scholarships to Union County seniors on behalf of the Agnes Liles Trust. These scholarships will be paid directly to the student’s college of choice and are renewable for four years depending on the student’s ability to maintain an adequate grade point average (total value $20,000 over four years.) The trust states that the scholarships will be granted to students with “character, demonstration of a desire to improve the general condition, and a willingness to work.” Applications are due May 2nd. -The Weddington Optimist Club is sponsoring a Laptop Scholarship. One laptop will be awarded to a Cuthbertson senior. The application is very simple. Please submit a 2 page double spaced 12 pt. font essay on the topic Why are you deserving of this computer scholarship award and will this award financially make a difference in your ability to attend college? The deadline is April 28th. Please submit your application to the CHS School Counseling Dept. by 12:00 pm. The recipient must be able to attend a reception on Thursday May 22nd at 7:00 pm at the Weddington Optimist Park to receive their prize.

-The Rensselaer Medal is a prestigious award given to a current junior who is in the top 10% of his/her class, demonstrates a potential for success in a challenging academic setting, excels in advanced math and science courses and exhibits significant involvement in extracurricular activities. Applicants must have completed chemistry, physics, and a minimum of four years of mathematics through pre-calculus by the end of their high school career. The Rensselaer Medal winner will be awarded a $60,000 scholarship to Rensselaer if the winner is accepted and chooses to enroll at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. -Piedmont EyeCare is offering 2 Cuthbertson students (1 male, 1 female) a $500 scholarship. Applicants must be interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. Please click here for the application. Applications are due Monday, May 5th. Please bring your application and essay to Mrs. Devine in the School Counseling Dept.

-The Union County Principal’s and Assistant Principal’s Association (UCPAPA) has established and funded one (1) $750.00 scholarship to be awarded each year. The applicant must also be a child of a current UCPS school administrator. Please see the attached application. Please click here for the application. The deadline for this scholarship is May 2, 2014.

-The Union County Principal’s and Assistant Principal’s Association (UCPAPA) has established and funded one (1) $1,000.00 scholarship to be awarded each year. Scholarship recipients must enroll as a full-time college student in a four-year college or university in the fall semester following the award of the UCPAPA Scholarship and the recipient must plan to major in education/teaching. ·Athnet Sports Recruiting Scholarship - We are offering a $1,000 scholarship available to full-time undergraduate college students who played sports at the high school level. Form more information go to www.athleticscholarships.net/scholarship-contest.htm Essays are due May 1st, 2014. 

·Girls on the Run of Union County began offering programs in 2006 at various elementary and middle schools. Some of the first participating girls are now seniors in the Class of 2014. This is the second year that the organization has established and funded two $1,000 scholarships for girls who participated in a Girls on the Run (Grades 3-5) or Girls on Track (Grades 6-8) program. -In-State Angels help out of state college students earn in-state tuition at over 80 universities in the USA.  Seniors who have been accepted to an out-of-state college should check out  www.instateangels.com to see if their university is listed. 

-Each year Kiwanis of Monroe gives out two scholarships ($2,000 each) to a Union County high school senior- one is an open scholarship, and one is reserved for an active member of a Key Club. -The Mary Blair Scholarship
is given each year by the Woman’s Missionary Union of Union Baptist Association to two students attending Wingate University. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded this year. All applications must be submitted by May 1, 2014. Click here for the application.


-The CHS PTSO
is proud to offer four $1000 scholarships to seniors pursuing fulltime high education after graduating from CHS. Applicant must be a CHS Senior graduating June 2014, have a minimum GPA if 3.0, and his/her parent must be a paid member of CHS PTSO as of April 1. ·A Few Good Men, Inc. is offering two scholarships of $500 each to  Union County high school seniors that will be entering an accredited college or technical school this fall. The scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s academic achievements and the other criteria listed on the application. Please click here for the complete application. Applications are due April 28th, 2014 and must be mailed to address as stated on the application.

·Siler Presbyterian Men of the Church offers scholarships for young men and women that are interested in attending a technical school, community college or a two year college to receive an associate’s degree. Financial need as expressed by the candidates is a significant consideration in awarding these scholarships.  The deadline for this scholarship is May 16th 2014. Applications are available here.

·The Union County Friends of the NRA are awarding $500 scholarships. Applications are available here. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements (see application) and must write an essay on the topic “The Second Amendment, The Right to Keep and Bear Arms and Its Relevance Today.” Essay must be in APA format.  Applications and essays are due April 28th, 2014.

·Mesothelioma Memorial Scholarship—Established in 2003, this $500 scholarship is offered four times per year to honor the thousands of people who have died from mesothelioma, as well as the thousands of patients who are newly diagnosed with the disease every year. Open to all students who are currently attending or planning to attend a post-high school educational program. Deadline: May 31 and August 15. ·TravelNursing.org and All50medical.com is happy to provide scholarships in support of those seeking a career in nursing / healthcare. Each year, a prospective or current college student will be selected to receive a $1000 scholarship to help with the costs associated with attending school. Interested applicants should submit a 500-1000 word essay describing what they hope to accomplish with their nursing career / healthcare. Applicants and potential scholarship winners will be critiqued by the editorial staff and selected annually on Dec. 17th. Applications for this year’s award are due by November 17th, 2014.
