CHS welcomed its class of 2012-2013 freshmen with a special orientation evening created just for them and their parents on Tuesday, August 21, 2012. Students were invited to gather in the cafeteria for activities while parents met in the Auditorium to hear all about the upcoming high school experience.
Principal Kim Warr welcomed the parent group and followed with helpful information specifically related to freshmen. This included 9th grade curriculum, graduation requirements, ways students and parents can get involved, extracurricular activities, various communication tools we use to communicate, as well as other items like agendas, lockers, student's daily schedules, etc. Parents were also introduced to the assistant principals and guidance counselors.
The rising freshmen gathered in the Cafeteria were addressed by CHS students who were members of the Principal’s Advisory Council and the Student Council. They were on hand to answer questions and describe high school life. The students were then divided into three groups to visit three different stations around the school; a tour of the building, a meeting with students to learn about clubs and involvement, and a meeting with teachers to learn about study skills.
Freshmen families also had the opportunity to purchase spirit wear, learn about bus routes, sign up to volunteer, and order PE uniforms. Principal Warr said, “Meeting the students and parents of the Class of 2016 was a great way to begin the school year; their enthusiasm for entering high school has helped set the tone of the amazing year that lies ahead.”
Welcome, Class of 2016!
