First 5k Run/Walk for UCPS teachers huge success
More than 700 runners, walkers, volunteers, and spectators gathered in historic downtown Monroe recently to show their support for Union County teachers. The June 1, 2013, “Running for the U” 5K Run/Walk raised more than $17,000, all of which will go into the classrooms of Union County Public School teachers via mini-grants administered by the Union County Education Foundation. These mini-grants will help teachers purchase items for use in their classrooms.
Cavs Holds "Math Oympics"
Shortly after AP Exams, the CHS AP Calculus and AP Statistics classes teamed up to put on a “Math Olympics” for the 8th graders at Cuthbertson Middle School. This unique “Math Olympics” was designed to educate the 8th graders globally while reviewing math topics they learned throughout the year. Each group of four students picked three countries that they wanted to educate the 8th graders on. Countries from Ethiopia, to Poland, to Mexico were picked. The students made math word problems based on actual facts from their chosen countries.
